FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q.
What does Acreage One do?

A.
The simplest answer is... Anything you want. As your general contractor we will coordinate your entire project from start to finish.

Q.
How much will my project cost?

A.
There are many factors that will influence the cost of your project:

  • Project size and scope of work to be done.
  • Municipal regulations
  • Required surveys, permits and inspections.
  • Site accessibility and distance for delivery of workers, materials and equipment.
  • Current fuel, material and labour costs.
  • The availability of sub-contractors.
  • The season (weather conditions).
  • Soil conditions.

We will assess your project on an individual basis then provide you with what is known as an early time and cost estimate. If our estimate meets within your expectations and you decide to proceed with your project. We will write a detailed WBS (Work Breakdown Structure). Then we will use the WBS to provide you with a direct quote for your project.

Q.
I have an estimate from another contractor. What's the difference between a quote and an estimate?

A.
A quote is the legally binding price that the contractor must complete the specified work for. An estimate is only a ball park figure. When working with a contractor ask for a direct quote not an estimate; many contractors will provide a low estimate in order to secure a job knowing the actual cost and invoice will be much higher. When comparing quotes look at the WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) to make sure that you are comparing apples to apples. The lowest quote may not always represent your best value.

Q.
You put a lot of emphases on planning; isn't that going to cost me money?

A.
Our goal is simple to make sure we don't waste your time and money. In every industry, each dollar spent on planning and preparation saves $10 on project work and $100 on fixing problems after the project is done. This is called the 1:10:100 rule. A well planned project will take one tenth as much time as the same project done with no planning at all. And every hour of planning saves ten hours of project time or 100 hours of hassle later on. Planning insures that you get exactly what you asked for and saves you money.

Q.
I noticed that Acreage One is fully insured and WCB compliant. Why would that matter to me?

A.
If you hire an uninsured contractor to work on your property and one of their employees becomes injured or causes some other damage. You will be held legally responsible just as though they were working for you directly. Always make sure any contractor you choose is properly insured.

Q.
What's the cheapest way to build this?

A.
The least expensive way to build anything is the way that lasts the longest. Going cheap does not payoff over the long term. At Acreage One we only use top quality materials installed to the manufacturer’s specifications that meet or exceed code. That’s the only way to go.
